“I remember in 1997 entering my first workshop filled with these vibrant & mature therapists, mostly older than me when I was a puppy, newbie of 37 years of age. I thought...WOW! ....The Motherload!....... a large, unearthed, swath of gold ready for the taking! The price: ......enter, stay, connect, courage, tears, vulnerability, laughter, voice, listening, fear, grief...emerge...evolve...repeat! My mission these last ten years has been to help restore a vibrancy to the local, DC-Mid Atlantic Region of AAP to spread the creed that nurturing the person of the therapist with challenging and rich connections anchors the work we do for the benefit of client, therapist, and all who are in relationship with us. ”

“The reason I’m an AAP member is that I have been to a number of AAP events and have found AAPs mission to promote the growth of the therapist highly enriching. The reason I’m a committee member is because I want to support that AAP mission and help other therapists with their personal and professional journeys.”
“I am a member of the Mid-Atlantic AAP because I wanted a local community in which I can learn and grow through authentic professional and personal interactions. AAP has provided me with many learnings about myself and my work, and I consider it my professional home.”

“Being a member of AAP helps support my practice and my wellbeing. I could not imagine being in private practice without this community. ”
“I am a member of AAP because I believe in our mission “to invigorate and support the psychotherapist’s quest for excellence and growth through authentic interpersonal engagement.” AAP is a loving community where I feel immensely supported and connected, while being challenged to be a healthier individual personally and professionally. ”

“I joined AAP three years ago after falling in love with my experience as a Scholar. Since then, I have found the Academy to be both nurturing and challenging. Being apart of this community has greatly benefited my professional and personal life.”
“I love the multitude of relationships I have built and nourished through the Academy. I have gotten to know people over my time at the academy, and they have expanded my support network both socially and professionally. How many other places can you go where you can have the opportunity to get to know people over decades, from multiple generations and places in the country? AAP is my village.”

“I am a member of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter Committee of AAP to form deeper relationships with local AAP members (personally & professionally), to stay engaged in AAP throughout the year, to give back to the Academy, and...because Angela encouraged me to join.”

“My time and experience in AAP has taught me far more about being a therapist than six years in my clinical psych PHD program.”
“I recently joined AAP to spend more time with like-minded people/therapists who are as interested in growing personally as they are professionally.”

“I love the connections and friendships I’ve made in the Academy. As a private practitioner this work can often feel isolating, but knowing that I have a huge network of colleagues helps me feel supported and encouraged when I need it most. ”
